Magazzn Road Map - how to get beyond your first issue!

Your first issue is live, what happens now?

Here's a breakdown of what you'll need and when, with our support along the way.

You've done the Demo, signed up and we've worked with you to get your first issue live ... now it's time to really roll up your sleeves!

Editorial Plan

Touched on during our Training and Set Up, it's a plan around what content you will include each issue. A framework to help you structure your issue content.

For example, a simplified plan might look like this;-

  • Editors Letter - overview of what's in that issue
  • 3 or 4 articles of interest. Local news that'll get people talking.
  • 2 or 3 'regular' articles. Local Heroes, 5 Minutes With, Yummy Recipe, Garden Calendar etc.
  • Weather Page, Puzzle Page, Local Issue Survey
  • Build a list of local (and vocal) contributors for occassional articles
  • Tell local businesses to keep you updated with 'announcements' and PR.
Marketing Plan

No print, postage or physical distribution to worry about. Remember, readers only need to scan a QR or tap the link once - they'll get every issue automatically.

Here's a set of things to start (and continue) working on, monitor results and focus effort accordingly;-

  • Partner up with your local FB group
  • Experiment with Facebook ads
  • Create library of window stickers and leaflets etc (we provide artwork!)
  • Flyer distribution, announce your magazine to local residents
  • Partner up with local businesses, bars, restaurants and hotels
  • Create a Marketing Plan and update as you go, based on response

Sales - Advertising, Sponsorship, Directory

3 main channels for generating revenue, straight adverts, sponsorship and enhanced directory listings

  • Advertising - 1/3, 1/2 or Full Page ads in your app (with links)
  • Sponsorship - local partners can sponsor sections or articles
  • List local independent businesses, charge for enhanced entry and promotional options
  • We'll work with you to create your 'Rate Card'
  • Choose and manage payment options
Administration - running your businesses

To start with you'll just need to concentrate on content, but soon you'll need to have systems in place for Sales, Invoicing and Accounting.

  • We provide 20 potential customers to start you off, you'll need to add more
  • Work out how to engage with potential customers, what works best for you (Phone, Email, On Foot, Social Media)
  • Set up invoicing (Manual, via Accounting Software, or pay online - we can help/advise)
